ASSITEJ – Upholding The Rights Of The Child

It was incredibly moving to witness the cooperation and willingness of our global community coming in numbers, in a spirit of adventure, to be together for this key moment in the ASSITEJ calendar.  I was moved by the visible friendship and care that helped people through the tough moments, the willingness to share and assist, the kindness that was shown when things didn’t go as planned and despite some big problems, people found solutions.  I loved the invisible work going on behind the program- the companies and artists going into schools and communities, performing for children where they are and bringing perspectives from all over the world into their classrooms.

Quelle émotion de constater la coopération et la volonté de notre communauté mondiale de venir en nombre, dans un esprit d'aventure, pour être ensemble à ce moment clé du calendrier d'ASSITEJ !  J'ai été émue par l'amitié et l'attention visibles qui ont aidé les gens à traverser les moments difficiles. Cette volonté de partager et d'aider, la gentillesse manifestée lorsque les choses ne se déroulaient pas comme prévu et que, malgré certains problèmes importants, les gens finissaient par trouver des solutions.  J'ai aimé le travail invisible qui s’est fait derrière le programme - les compagnies et les artistes qui vont dans les écoles et les communautés, se produisant pour les enfants là où ils se trouvent et apportant des perspectives du monde entier dans leurs salles de classe.

Fue increíblemente conmovedor ser testigo de la cooperación y la voluntad de nuestra comunidad global de acudir en masa, con espíritu de aventura, para estar juntos en este momento clave del calendario de ASSITEJ.  Me conmovió la amistad y el cuidado visibles que ayudaron a la gente en los momentos difíciles, la voluntad de compartir y ayudar, la amabilidad que se mostró cuando las cosas no salieron como estaba previsto y, a pesar de algunos grandes problemas, la gente encontró soluciones.  Me encantó el trabajo invisible que sucedía detrás del programa: las compañías y los artistas que visitaban a las escuelas y comunidades, actuando para las infancias donde éstas se encontraban y llevando perspectivas de todo el mundo a sus aulas.

In narrating this journey, which is also a countdown, I'd also like to share a little of what I've experienced in relation to the preparations for this huge event. Since 2021, I have been invited to serve as a Counsellor to the Executive Committee of ASSITEJ International, and you can only get a sense of a structure by looking at it from the inside. There are many difficulties that we must always be aware of and one of the biggest is certainly the continuous effort to ensure that the association always maintains its global perspective. Aspects such as cultural differences and expressing ourselves in different languages are a constant challenge. Therefore, stimulating the growth of the Association's activities in the most diverse parts of the globe is an objective that should always be in the sights of ASSITEJ International. And holding this Congress is definitely a move towards this.
