The Engel&Magorrian theatre group will premiere their production Im Härz on 16 September 2026 – a piece of object theatre for everyone aged 6 and over, co-produced with the Theater Stadelhofen in Zurich, the Bühne Aarau and the Schlachthaus Theatre in Bern.
What makes this production unique is that it is being developed in collaboration with the Accessibility in Children’s Theatre project at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB) as a learning tool, and is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
«Im Härz» is an adventure journey into the very heart, the seat of our emotions. From the outset, questions of inclusion for different audience groups have been part of the research and artistic development. An integrated audio description is being written for the play, a tactile tour is being offered, and the performances are being designed as ‘relaxed performances’.
The project adresses a key gap in the Swiss theatre landscape: accessibility in theatre for young audiences. Building on the findings of the SNF research project ‘Aesthetics of the Im/mobile’, Nina Mühlemann, Thubten Shontshang and Yvonne Schmid will apply their research findings to the field of children’s theatre – and open up new ways for children with and without disabilities to experience theatre.
ASSITEJ Switzerland acts as a facilitator at both national and international levels for the experiences and findings of this artistic research. Enquiries are welcome and should be directed to the secretariat: info@assitej.ch
