ASSITEJ Uruguay holds the tenth edition of its National Festival in May—which has been running since 2014—bringing nearly 5,000 children to the theatre in each of the first eight editions.
Since 2023, the festival has moved from the city’s main theater to the neighborhoods and reaches audiences who rarely leave their hometowns. The theater is smaller, so it reaches around 2,000 children, but in a critical context, making the Festival plays their first experience with theater. The children, along with their teachers, work on what they saw and felt.
In 2025, the ASSITEJ Uruguay Festival will be held on Tuesday, May 13, Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15. The performances will run in double shifts, at 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., so that both morning and afternoon schools can attend. Six plays are presented from all over Uruguay. This year, the Festival was declared of Interest by the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP).
