ASSITEJ Uruguay holds the eleventh edition of its National Festival in October—which has been running since 2014—bringing nearly 5,000 children to the theatre in each of the first eight editions.

Since 2023, the festival has moved from the city’s main theatre to the neighbourhoods and reaches audiences who rarely leave their hometowns. The theatre is smaller, so it reaches around 2,000 children, but in a critical context, making the Festival their first experience with theatre. The children, along with their teachers, work on what they saw and felt.

In 2026, the ASSITEJ Uruguay Festival will be held on October, Tuesday 20, Wednesday 21, and Thursday 22. The performances will run in double shifts, at 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., so that both morning and afternoon schools can attend. Six plays are presented from all over Uruguay.

See you at the Florencio Sánchez Cultural Complex in the Cerro neighbourhood of Montevideo.
