The first focus of ASSITEJ Belgium will be on a national level; names of companies, venues, festivals, funding systems, cultural and aesthetic visions, it became obvious that the three communities hardly know each other. We want to stimulate the knowledge, the collaborations and the exchange of artists between all communities. That is why we have planned a second national meeting, at the Festival des Turbulences in Namur (November 2015). Companies will present themselves, there will be some challenging blind dates and the networks in ASSITEJ will be presented.
The second focus is on the communication: a new logo, a website, newsletter, meetings/gatherings, etc. On the international level we are still developing plans of action, but are very eager to collaborate, so don’t hesitate to contact us!

In the Jubilee section of this year’s ASSITEJ Magazine, Shaili Sathyu from India writes about her “Journey of Discovery” into the world of ASSITEJ. This journey starts with a trip to Hamburg, Germany, in 2009 when Shaili took part in ASSITEJ Germany’s International Directors’ Seminar. Her conclusion that “one week literally changed my life” is a great compliment. Thank you,
ASSITEJ Germany’s International Directors’ Seminar takes place every other year and it invites directors from all over the world to work together for one week. So far, 452 directors from over 70 countries have taken part in the seminar since 1976. You can find a list of all former participants here (http://www.assitej.de/fileadmin/assitej/pdf/Regieseminar/Directors_Seminar_1976-2013.pdf) and you will be surprised how many of them are active in ASSITEJ!
This year, we will welcome about 25 directors from Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, USA, Vietnam and Zimbabwe at the National Theater in Mannheim (https://www.nationaltheater-mannheim.de/en/index.php).
The seminar will focus on the theme of “progress / Fortschritt” and we are looking forward to an exchange on what progress might mean in different parts of the world for our audiences and for those who create theatre for young audiences.
