South African Plays Published

ASSITEJ South Africa has joined forces with Shuter & Shooter Publishers to publish school editions of plays for children that have been developed through our programmes and networks over the past years. Initial publications will include The Terrified Talabalushi by Megan Choritz, Nompilo by Lalu Mokuku and Omphile Molusi, The Silver Stream by Gisele Turner and Wendy Nell, and Bug-Pea Colours the Rainbow by Lereko Mfono.

ASSITEJ SA has been approached to provide the content for a series of play texts for children from Grades 4 – 9 by educational publisher, Shuter & Shooter.

We are delighted to have this opportunity to get these plays into the hands of children and their teachers. Each text will be accompanied by an introductory text written by ASSITEJ SA, and helpful notes for the teacher to use should they choose to stage the play with their classes. Most of the productions had their first outing as part of an ASSITEJ SA initiative, such as the African Playwriting Festival, the In the Works Festivals, our National Arts Festival platform, the Cradle of Creativity Festival, or in independent commissions from funders.

SA Theatre Touring for World Day

ASSITEJ SA is gearing up for the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People, with a number of initiatives country-wide. These include tours of Pieces of Me by Bo Petersen, Grommels by Aneglique Filter and Robert Hindley, Skin We Are In by Omphile Molusi, How to Hold the World by Juliette Rose-Innes and Nompilo, by Lalu Mokuku and Omphile Molusi.

In addition to productions on tour, ASSITEJ SA will be providing discounted or free performances of productions to children and young people through partnerships with festivals such as the Baxter Theatre’s Zabalaza Festival and the Klein Karoo Kunstefees.
