The project of the Association of Theatres for Children and Youth “Theatre Comes To Children“ starts in September. The project has been successfully held for some years. Every time it chooses a different corner of Lithuania and gives a real theatre festival – free performances for children and youth. This year it is the region of Ðalèininkai. In September and October twelve performances will be shown. Nine theatres take part in it.
“Long-time activities revealed that many children and young people, especially living in remote places, not in big cities, do not know the world of the theatre. They have never been to a theatre and have never seen any performance. It is a pity that they do not have neither financial nor physical possibilities to come to the theatre.“
The Association unites 22 theatres and individual artists from the whole Lithuania. Its purpose is to ensure spread of professional art in regions. The project “Theatre Comes To Children“ since 2008 has successfully done this mission. Members of the Association play their mobile performances not only on the big scenes, but also in orphanages, socialization centres, schools, kindergartens and also in places that are not traditional – hospitals, museums, libraries.
It is necessary to say that these performances are free or only symbolic pay of 1 EUR is taken.
“Lots of children, their interest and appreciation prove that we must not only wait for them in the theatre – we must reach them in their living places“, – says Violeta Podolskaitë and stresses that the necessity such spread of performances was proven during international and national festivals of ASSITEJ.
