ASSITEJ Finland gave out the first ASSITEJ prize to puppeteer Maija Barič on 20th March 2016
ASSITEJ Finland gave out the first ASSITEJ prize to a well known puppeteer and founder of Puppet Theatre Sampo, Maija Barič (b.1950) in Finland. The prize was given because of Maijas’s lifelong achievements with Finnish children’s theatre. Since the 1970s Maija has been a magnificent pioneer of theatre and arts education in Finland publishing dozens of books related to puppetry as well as performing and writing plays herself. She founded Puppet Theatre Sampo together with her husband and retired from the post of artistic director in 2014.
The prize was given on 20th March as a part of ASSITEJ World Day of Theatre for Children in 2016.
