Beyond Borders And Strings: No Strings Attached International Puppetry Festival 2026
Paper Monkey Theatre celebrates 10 years of No Strings Attached International Puppetry Festival with its 2026 edition, taking place from 13–15 November 2026 at Goodman Arts Centre. Since its inaugural edition in 2016, the festival has grown into an important platform for cultural exchange, artistic innovation and professional networking within the puppetry community.
Under the theme “Beyond Borders and Strings”, this milestone edition brings together puppetry artists and companies from Taiwan, Korea, Iran, Indonesia and Thailand, presenting a diverse programme spanning traditional Chinese glove puppetry, Indonesian wayang kulit, contemporary visual theatre, object theatre and innovative puppetry forms.
A festival highlight is the Singapore premiere of The Soup of Reincarnation (《孟婆.汤》) by Taiwan’s Jin Kwei Lo Puppet Company. Winner of the 29th Taiwan Traditional Arts Golden Melody Awards, this acclaimed Hokkien glove puppetry production will be presented for just three nights, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience one of Taiwan’s celebrated contemporary Potehi productions.
Beyond the main performances, audiences can enjoy Shadow Puppet Slam, Festival Strings & Things Market, and Play, Make, Move — a family-friendly programme of hands-on workshops, storytelling and a special mini performance by graduates of Paper Monkey Theatre’s 2026 Potehi Performance Masterclass.
The 2026 festival is also a special farewell to The Artground at Goodman Arts Centre, as the venue prepares to relocate. It promises to be a meaningful celebration of a decade of strings, stories, cultural connections and shared experiences — particularly for families, young audiences and anyone passionate about puppetry and international performing arts.
