International Touring Theatre Festival For Children And Youth To Be Held In Mongolia For The First Time
The Wanderlust project is one of only two initiatives selected by ASSITEJ International under its “Regional Cooperation Programme.” It proudly began in Mongolia as Wanderlust Mongolia, marking the starting point of this important international collaboration before continuing in Indonesia and Nepal in 2026–2027.
Wanderlust Mongolia, the International Touring Theatre Festival, aimed at making stage theatre accessible to children and youth in rural and remote areas of Mongolia, will take place from April 14–25, 2026. Over 11 days, performances will be held across 16 soums of Bulgan Province and 2 soums of Orkhon Province.
Initiated by ASSITEJ Mongolia and Bamboo Theatre, the festival seeks to expand access to professional theatre for young audiences, foster collaboration between international and local artists, build new regional partnerships, strengthen artistic capacity, and promote arts education.
The festival’s central theme focuses on climate change, ecological balance, and responsible relationships between humans and nature. Through theatre, it aims to provide equal access to arts education for children and youth. The main program will include:
- International and local theatre performances for children and youth
- Workshops, trainings, and discussions
- Artist exchange and networking activities
- Participatory and educational programs
- Next Generation Program Mongolia
Sustainable Development and Green Festival
Wanderlust Mongolia embraces the principle of being an “Eco-Friendly Festival,” implementing environmentally conscious practices such as:
- Zero Plastic Waste policy
- Reduced paper use with QR-based digital information
- Green transportation and low-emission logistics
- Support for local services and businesses
Leaving a positive “green footprint” after the festival.
