The Provincial Council of Performing Arts and the Provincial Directorate of Culture announce the 36th Guantanamo Baracoa Touring Theatre Festival, a non-profit event that brings theatre art to hard-to-reach areas of our territory’s mountainous massif every year.
The route crosses six of the province’s municipalities: Manual Tames, Yateras, San Antonio del Sur, Imías, Maisí, and Baracoa. This itinerary considers sites of historical significance such as the Martí and Gómez, Antonio Maceo, and Flor Crombet routes. It also provides the opportunity to enjoy the exuberant nature of the Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa massif, an enclave of the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, the Caujerí Valley, the Cuban semi-desert, Punta de Maisí, and the La Farola viaduct.
This edition, from January 28 to March 3, 2026, will be dedicated to:
- Ways to honour the legacy of Martí, founded from the most diverse perspectives, are the preservation of individuals and their cultures. A tribute to the National Hero José Martí on the 173rd anniversary of his birth.
- To the validity of Fidel Castro’s thinking in calling for the artistic avant-garde, a look back 65 years since the founding of UNEAC.
- To the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS).
- To the Indo-Cuban imprint present in Guantanamo culture.
The program for the 36th edition of the Guantánamo-Baracoa Touring Theatre Festival includes performances, exchanges of knowledge with the public. In its theoretical section, it has the 21st Theatre and Community Colloquium, as well as the 7th Meeting of Creative Women, conferences and workshops, the audiovisual meeting Crossing the Lens, and the internship for students from Theatre Academies.
