ASSITEJ International and four other performing arts networks, each co-funded by the Creative Europe Network Strand, have together formed a coalition.

The Performing Arts Coalition (PAC), consists of ASSITEJ, Circostrada, European Dance Development Network, European Festival Association and IETM.

ASSITEJ International has joined this coalition in order to:

  • pool resources to better advocate for the values, needs, and aspirations of the performing arts sector in Europe, especially when addressing EU authorities and policies;
  • strengthen understanding of the performing arts for and with young audiences among decision-makers;
  • collaborate with the member networks to pool resources, exchange knowledge, and build partnerships.

The Performing Arts Coalition will address a different topic each year:

  • In 2025, we will address cultural rights as well as the political and social trends that impact people’s ability to engage with the performing arts freely, both as artists and audiences;
  • In 2026, we will address the Future of EU Funding for Culture in relation to the Multiannual Financial Framework of the EU, including the Creative Europe programme for 2028-2034;
  • In 2027, we will address Working Conditions across the cultural and creative sectors in Europe.

Each topic will be addressed through surveys, workshops, and other engagements with members with policy events to share the results with the sector and decision-makers.

The Coalition has a membership and mandate that is mainly European. However, as ASSITEJ International is a global Association, we aim to use this opportunity to learn and develop methods through this partnership that we can roll out globally to other regions. This will be done in a dialogue with the National Centres and Regional Networks of ASSITEJ to address the very different needs and contexts of each region.

Survey on Cultural Rights

Deadline: Friday 14 March at 23:59 CET

We are looking for the insights of performing arts professionals on the current situation of citizen’s rights to engage with the performing arts on their own terms, both as creators and participants.

We therefore invite everyone working in the performing arts to complete a survey which takes approximately 20 minutes – whether you are an artist, producer, manager, researcher, funder or other professional involved in circus, dance, music, performance, theatre, outdoor art, or interdisciplinary performing arts forms. The survey aims to gather an understanding of both positive and negative trends in policy and the legislative landscape affecting citizen’s rights to engage with the performing arts – both as artists and audiences.

Members of ASSITEJ are particularly invited to share perspectives from the sector of performing arts for and with children and young people. We ask National Centres based in European Union countries to complete the survey themselves – as well as to encourage contributions from their members.

By gathering your insights, we aim to identify key political and social trends that impact artists, children, and young people’s ability to engage with the performing arts freely. Your response will help us map the landscape and highlight gaps, as well as address emerging challenges and propose policy solutions.

Deadline: Friday 14 March at 23:59 CET
