The members of ASSITEJ Spain have decided to award the ASSITEJ Spain National Prize 2024 to Beatriz de Torres, in recognition of her rigorous, committed, and careful practice as the artistic director of Espacio Abierto Quinta de Los Molinos, a benchmark in creating spaces for learning and reflection for new generations. Beatriz de Torres is a cultural management professional whose work over the past eight years has been fundamental in creating, directing, and promoting performance proposals aimed at children and young audiences through the Espacio Abierto Quinta de Los Molinos project, a cultural space in Madrid dedicated to childhood, where Beatriz has successfully integrated theatre, education, and community participation.
In her role as artistic director, she has promoted a diverse programme encompassing both the performing arts and education, always seeking to provide children and young people with an enriching and unique experience. Under her leadership, Espacio Abierto has established itself as a reference point for the creation and enjoyment of theatre aimed at this audience, becoming an example of cultural management committed to the values of inclusion, accessibility, and quality.
ASSITEJ Spain highlights Beatriz de Torres’s ability to transform her vision of theatre into a cultural management model that not only involves young people and their families as spectators but also as active protagonists in the creation and experience of performing arts. This award is a well-deserved recognition of her work in promoting theatre as an educational and transformative tool, reaffirming her position as a key figure in the evolution of theatre for children and youth in Spain.
The award ceremony will take place during FETEN 2025 (European Fair of Performing Arts for Children in Gijón/Xixón) from 16 to 21 February.
