Scene Design And New Technologies In Performing Arts For Young Audiences - ASSITEJ International Skip to main content

23 November 2023, Novi Sad, Serbia

In partnership with the University of Novi Sad’s Faculty of Technical Sciences and the internationally renowned SCEN Centre for Scene Design, the Turning Point programme includes the all-day international conference ‘Scene Design and New Technologies in Performing Arts for Young Audiences’.

Co-edited by Nikola Zavišić, an award-winning Director and Lighting Designer, and Sanja Maljković, Ph.D, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Stage Design at the University of Novi Sad, this conference includes lectures, discussions and performances, all aimed at exploring innovative and exciting approaches in the field of production design.

The programme includes a variety of voices, from Nikola Zavišić, with a lecture on the guerilla approach in stage design and theatre production, to experts from Belgrad’s Performing Arts Laboratory and the Green Art Incubator, a local pioneer in sustainability and green transformation within the cultural sector.

For those interested in a more visceral encounter with production design, the programme offers a rich variety of experiences. One of these is Daydreaming – the Serbian students’ exhibition at this year’s Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space. This performative installation was awarded “most imaginative concept,” highlighting the originality, innovation and thoughtful expression of young authors in the field of performing arts. Prehistoric Girl, a play directed by Sonja Petrović, will be staged by the National Theatre “Toša Jovanović” in Zrenjanin. Aimed at audiences of ages six and up, this performance was designed entirely in accordance with contemporary ecological aspirations for theatre production – one of only a few such examples on the domestic and regional scene. In addition, we are delighted to present Dalija Aćin, a Contemporary Dance Choreographer, and Laureate of ASSITEJ International’s Award for Artistic Excellence. Dalija will host a master class for young artists on the topic of immersive stage design for babies and neurodivergent children, which promises to be both engaging and enlightening.

Registrations will soon be open for this programme, which takes place on the 23rd November 2023. In the meantime, please do keep browsing the site – Turning Point has many other programmes and performances on offer!
