ASSITEJ Spain has successfully celebrated in Barcelona the I Gathering of Dramaturgy for Young Audiences from the 27th through the 31 of March. We have dialogued, analyzed and studied the current situation of Performing Arts for Children and Young People, new possibilities and future lines of collaboration. The event started on Wednesday 27th of March with Suzanne Lebeau’s Writing Workshop, in which 12 participants improved writing for young audiences.

At the conferences we reflected on wich languages to use with children and young people in theatre and the changes that dramaturgy for children and young people has undergone in recent years at the Intergenerational Dialogues. There were discussions on dramaturgy by age group were also focused: dramaturgy 0-5, dramaturgy 6-12 and youth dramaturgy.

Other issues were also analysed, such as the characteristics of the edition of dramatic texts for children and young people and the role of education and schools in their convergence with the performing arts. Playwright Suzanne Lebeau was in charge of the closing conference with the paper “Writing for young audiences. A conquest of freedom”. There was also time for playwrights and companies meet each other at the Professional Meeting and, of course, to attend the theatre together.

The first Gathering of Dramaturgy for Young Audiences have been the inception of a relationship between playwrights and theatre companies that will become strong working today by the young audiences at the moment.
