About ricca ricca*festa 2020

In May 2020, the ASSITEJ World Congress and International Theatre Festival for Children and Young Audiences will take place in Tokyo, for the first time in Japan. It is the event organised every 3 years by ASSITEJ (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People), a global organisation for practitioners of theatre for young audiences.
For this memorable 20th edition of the Congress, Hisashi Shimoyama, producer of ricca ricca*festa, has been assigned to take the role of the Artistic Director.

Professionals who work in arts and culture for children and young people will gather from all around the world in order to discuss about the arts for children in the present day and future.
The festival will present the diverse and quality works from around the globe to share the best current practices of theatre for children and young audiences.
This ASSITEJ World Congress 2020, the very first congress to be organised in Japan, will be spread from Tokyo to all over Japan and become an opportunity to let the whole Japan think anew about the culture for children.
This is a new step for the theatre for children and young people in Japan.

The Congress in Tokyo will take place on 14-24 May 2020, and various programme will be   organised across Japan.
It is confirmed that ricca ricca*festa 2020 will also take place in conjunction with the Congress, which means the dates of the festival will be moved to May 2020.
