“Jungspund”, a newly established drama festival for young audiences, was held from 21 February to 3 March 2018 in St. Gallen, Eastern Switzerland.
Of the 40 or so productions scrutinised by the six-person programme team, 12 productions from all of Switzerland’s language regions were invited – from dance theatre and puppet shows all the way to classic spoken theatre.
In collaboration with ASSITEJ Schweiz/Suisse/Svizerra/Svizra, a supporting programme entitled “Marktplatz 1-4” was offered to theatre makers, teachers, students and interested members of the public.
The first edition of the festival was extremely well received by audiences. School classes from Eastern Switzerland took advantage of the varied offer, while the Swiss theatre scene also enjoyed the opportunity for encounter and exchange.
The inclusion of students from different disciplines was particularly important.
The festival highlight was the “Jungspund” band which gave various musicians a platform for a first, one-off collaboration and joint appearance in a festival setting.
The various partners involved were unanimous in the need and desire to ensure the festival has a home and continuity.
As a biennial festival, the next “Jungspund” will be in 2020 – and it will have a distinctly international focus.
