From 21st to 25th of April the International Theatre Kingfestival presents drama, contemporary dance and puppet performances for young audience in Velikiy Novgorod, Russia.
The festival announces theatres from Russia, China, Korea, Sweden, Portugal, France, Germany, Latvia, Italy, Liechtenstein and Belgium. Festival program includes 15 performances, a wide range of plays from Bible parables to Shakespeare’s stories and contemporary plays.
Novgorod theatre for children and youth “Mali” holds International Theatre Kingfestival since 1992 and has transformed into one of the hugest cultural forums, making up the best productions of Russian, European and Asian theatres for young public. Kingfestival always puts an emphasis on a high quality of performances, creating a program of different theatre genres. The festival is biennale and it has become one of the most remarkable and famous theatre festivals for young audience in Russia. The festival is organized by the Ministry of culture of Russian Federation, Russian center ASSITEJ, Theatre Union of the Russian Federation, Administration of Velikiy Novgorod and Novgorod Theater for children and youth “Mali”.
Special program includes exhibition of contemporary design art of Sweden artists in area of theatre playbills together with ASSITEJ Sweden, round table of directors of international festivals and international creative laboratory, workshops.
This year’s special festival project – international creative laboratory “Young Critics – Future of the Theatre” celebrates its 10th year anniversary. The festival and Theatre Union of Russia announced an open call for young theatre specialists-critics and got 55 applications from different parts of Russia and foreign countries. The laboratory extended its borders for the first time this way – 16 participants from different regions of Russia and also foreign participants from Tartu (Estonia) and Riga (Latvia) will take part in it. During the laboratory work they will keep a blog, do the interview and take part in open discussion and master classes.
