International Festival of Performing Arts for a Young Audience

March 9-12, Riga

From March 9 – 12, the theater festival ‘EJU MEKL?T!’ will take place in Riga. It is organized by ASSITEJ Latvia and will offer an exchange of experience between theater professionals, spectators, actors, parents and children.

The festival program offers a wide range of genres – a drawing theater, object games, mini opera, Shakespeare’s text in a clownery, philosophy in the movement’s performance, also performance as a lecture and puppetry. Additional events – international professionals symposium ‘Performing Arts for Young Audience – entertainment, education, personality’ and contacts program ‘Festival club’ is to be held in the framework of the festival.

_For the first time a broad interest of foreign experts is dedicated to the Latvian professional theater program for children and young people. Almost 20 foreign experts will attend “EJU MEKL?T!” in Riga from all Nordic and Baltic countries, the Czech Republic, Russia and Germany. All experts unite professional affiliation to ASSITEJ. It is also known that the director J?nis Znoti?š will join the International Directors’ Seminar from June 12 to 18, 2017 at THEATER WREDE in Oldenburg, organized by the ASSITEJ Germany.

In addition, cooperation with European network SMALL SIZE is expected. This network pays particular attention to the baby theater audiences in performing arts. Network leader Katariina Metsälampi will visit the Festival as well.

Festival presents a program of professional theatre productions from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Russia. Program is aimed at children and youth from the ages 1 to 18.
