Where are the Pioneers? : ON THE EDGE of Practice & Research

In July 2016, the ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering (AAG) will take place in Birmingham, UK under the banner ON THE EDGE focussing the world of TYA on a 9-day feast of shows, workshops, seminars, papers and more from all regions of the world.

The AAGs are designed to stimulate and encourage artistic activity and exchange. They take place every year in which there is not an ASSITEJ World Congress and Performing Arts Festival (which occurs every three years).

AAG16 will provide a space in which all the members of ASSITEJ have the opportunity to engage with the artistic life of the organisation and explore their own practice. It will create an opportunity to share, challenge and develop ideas; and to participate in discourse and practical demonstrations from colleagues within the field.

Besides a programme of specially chosen productions representing a diverse range of styles and forms of theatre from all continents, the Symposia Strand offers a variety of allied events for delegates to actively engage in and explore exciting developments and innovative practice.

ON THE EDGE is open to performing arts practitioners and researchers from different countries; performers of all genres and techniques, theatre directors, musicians, theatre designers, playwrights, performing arts academics, arts educators and teachers, theatre critics, arts journalists etc.

The organisers of OTE invite proposals for paper presentations, workshops, practical demonstrations, panel discussions and seminars addressing the following theme:

We particularly welcome submissions which address inter-disciplinary exchange, practice-based research and pioneering collaborations involving both practitioners and researchers.

CALL FOR PLAYS

ATINA invites Spanish-speaking playwrights to participate in the SCHOOLYARD STORIES Project

Schoolyard Stories is an interdisciplinary project (which includes playwriting,
direction, staging, exhibition and work with young people) about high school yards, dealing with adolescent topics from previous researches in secondary schools.

The 1st. Edition of Schoolyard Stories (Schoolyard Stories in IberoAmerica) was organized by ATINA in collaboration with IberoAmerican ASSITEJ Centers between 2018 and 2010 and run together with the European Project “Platform 11+”.

Schoolyard Stories is a project developed in three steps:

  • Call for plays (2015)

Research in secondary schools

Playwriting

Selection

Publishing

  • Directors Workshop (2016)

Directors interested in participating will meet in a workshop where they will work on the selected plays coordinated by an expertise.

  • Staging and Festival (2017)

Directors participating in the workshop will stage the chosen play with their company. They will receive tutorial support during the process.

The plays staged will participate in the Schoolyard Stories Festival, a space for exchange and evaluation.

About the topic

The 2nd Edition will have as main topic Adolescent Identity.

Adolescents look for their own identity during this period of their lives, frequently going through deep personal, familiar or social conflicts. They look for their self image, their place in the world, which allows them to recognize themselves.

The search for identity takes different aspects of their personal and social life, sometimes as free decisions, sometimes as pressures or confrontations from others. So we can recognize ethnic, religious, sexual, origin or social identity. Identity appears also through external signs as fashion, music, tattoos, sporting teams, etc.

Schoolyard stories’ aim is to research, through dialogue with adolescents: how they go through this process, what they feel and think, and how they face this stage of life. In this way we expect that their experiences can be reflected on the stage. Research and the contact with youngsters is the main aspect of the project.

It´s not our intention to create a pedagogic, social, or psychological theatre, but to create a fiction theatre that can move the young audience and give them the possibility of reflection and dialogue about the topics that concern them.

Call out

    1. The call is for plays no longer than 20 minutes. Any genre is possible (text plays, choreographies, songs, image theatre, puppet theatre).
    2. The plays should be the result of research work previously done in secondary schools (students between 13 and 18 years old) or in contact with adolescent groups (sport teams, theatre workshops, etc.) The research can be organized through interviews, observations, photos, videos, records, drawings.
    3. The plays should be sent together with the research material. If possible photos or videos should be sent, as well as the institution information. The participation of youngsters can be anonymous.
    4. The texts should be presented in Spanish and will have 20 pages, written on double space in Times New Roman 12.
    5. The texts should be presented under a pseudonym. The title of the play, pseudonym, and author’s data should be sent in a different document.
    6. The complete material should be sent by email to patiosdelrecreo@atina.org.ar “PATIOS DEL RECREO + TITLE” ­+ three attached documents:
      • The play
      • Author´s data
      • Research material. (including photos, links to videos, written material)
    7. ATINA will select between 5 and 10 texts to be published in the Anthology “Patios del Recreo- Teatro para Adolescentes”  (Schoolyard stories- Theatre for adolescents) During a second step, the selected texts will be part of the material to be staged during the Directors Workshop.
    8. The jury will be composed by Sonia Daniel (Córdoba- Argentina); Dewis Durán (Caracas- Venezuela); Héctor Presa (Buenos Aires- Argentina)
    9. Deadline November 2015
    10. The results will be published during February 2016.
    11. The participation in the project includes the acceptance of conditions and the authorization for publishing and staging the play.

CONVOCATORIA PARA DRAMATURGOS

ATINA convoca a Dramaturgos Iberoamericanos a participar del Proyecto de Investigación y Dramaturgia para Adolescentes PATIOS DEL RECREO

“Patios del Recreo” es una propuesta de ATINA en colaboración con la Red Iberoamericana de Teatro para Niños y Jóvenes de ASSITEJ.

“Patios del Recreo” un proyecto interdisciplinario (dramaturgia, dirección, puesta en escena) que aborda la temática adolescente a partir de trabajos previos de investigación de campo en las escuelas de nivel medio, con la participación de profesionales del teatro para niños y jóvenes. Patios del Recreo tiene por objetivo generar nuevas propuestas teatrales, adecuadas a los tiempos que vivimos, que permitan interesar y acercar a los jóvenes al teatro.

Antecedentes

Este proyecto nace en Europa en el año 1999 a partir de la necesidad de encontrar una respuesta temática y estilística para una franja de público particularmente reacia al teatro (jóvenes entre 13 y 18 años) para la que había muy escasa producción teatral.

La I Edición de Patios del Recreo (Patios del Recreo en Iberoamérica) fue organizada por ATINA  entre los años 2008 y 2010 con la participación de profesionales argentinos e iberoamericanos y en colaboración con “Platform 11+”, nueva edición del Patios del Recreo que se desarrollaba en Europa.

El proyecto (concurso de dramaturgia, taller para directores, puesta en escena y Festival) dio como resultado diez nuevos textos de teatro para adolescentes, publicados por ATINA a través de Ediciones UPB y traducidos al inglés y publicados por Platform 11+, otras tantas puestas en escena que permitieron no solo generar un movimiento teatral para grupos adolescentes sino también un intenso intercambio (talleres, giras, encuentros) entre todos los profesionales participantes. El proyecto se reprodujo después en la provincia de Córdoba con la participación de directores y grupos teatrales cordobeses con renovado éxito.

Sobre la Temática

La II Edición de Patios del Recreo tendrá como tema central la Identidad Adolescente.

Sabido es que durante la adolescencia los jóvenes buscan, muchas veces atravesando importantes conflictos personales, familiares y sociales, su propia identidad, aquella imagen de sí mismos, aquel lugar en el mundo que les permita reconocerse y afirmarse.

La búsqueda de la identidad se da a través de muy diversos aspectos de la vida personal y social, muchas veces responde a libres decisiones, otras a presiones del medio, otras a enfrentamientos. Así podemos reconocer una identidad étnica, religiosa, sexual, de origen o filiación, social, etc. La identidad se manifiesta también  por signos externos que la confirman, tan necesarios para el adolescente como la vestimenta, la moda, las bandas musicales, tatuajes, equipos deportivos, etc.

Los adultos que los rodean no son ajenos a este proceso e influyen por presión o por oposición a la formación de dicha identidad. Tampoco lo son los mismos adolescentes que también por presión, por enfrentamientos o por sentido de pertenencia influyen en este proceso.

Patios del Recreo se propone indagar, a través del diálogo con los adolescentes cómo viven ellos este proceso, qué sienten, qué piensan, cómo lo enfrentan para que sus vivencias puedan reflejarse en el escenario. Es por eso que es parte fundamental del proyecto el trabajo de investigación y contacto con los jóvenes.

No se trata de crear un teatro pedagógico, ni social, ni psicológico que intente enseñar o guiar desde el escenario. Se trata de generar un teatro de ficción que conmueva al público joven y le de la posibilidad, a posteriori, de reflexionar o dialogar sobre los temas que le preocupan.

En definitiva, Patios del Recreo es una propuesta que intenta tender un puente que nos permita acercarnos a nuestro público joven.

Convocatoria

1- La convocatoria es para creaciones dramatúrgicas de no más de 20 minutos

de duración dentro de cualquier género escénico (teatro de texto, obras coreográficas, canciones, teatro de imagen, títeres, etc.) basadas en situaciones del patio del recreo de la escuela secundaria.

2- Las obras deberán surgir como resultado de un trabajo de investigación de campo previamente realizado en las escuelas secundarias (alumnos entre13 y 18 años) y/o en contacto con grupos de adolescentes (clubes, talleres de teatro, etc.), con el fin de que reflejen la problemática adolescente actual, más que del trabajo de escritorio que pueda generar el dramaturgo en soledad.  El trabajo de investigación podrá basarse en entrevistas y/u observaciones con registro escrito y/o audiovisual (fotos, videos, grabaciones, dibujos, etc.).

3- Las obras deberán acompañarse con el material recabado en la investigación de campo que hubiera dado lugar a la temática abordada. El material gráfico o escrito deberá ser acompañado por videos y/o fotografías, así como de los datos de la institución donde se realizó la investigación y los contactos correspondientes. La participación de los adolescentes puede ser anónima.

4- Los textos deberán ser presentados en castellano y tendrán una extensión no mayor de 20 páginas, escritas a doble espacio en Times New Norman 12.

5- Los trabajos deberán ser presentados bajo pseudónimo. En documento aparte deberá constar el título de la obra, el pseudónimo y los datos del autor (nombre- teléfono- dirección- mail)

6- El material deberá enviarse por mail a patiosdelrecreo@atina.org.ar bajo el asunto “PATIOS DEL RECREO + TÍTULO DE LA OBRA” y tres documentos adjuntos:

  • La obra
  • Datos del autor
  • Material de investigación (incluyendo fotos, links a videos, material escrito)

7- ATINA seleccionará entre 5 y 10 textos para su publicación en la antología “Patios del Recreo- Teatro para Adolescentes” En una segunda etapa, los textos seleccionados formarán parte del material sobre el que se trabajará en el Taller de Directores con el objetivo de su posterior puesta en escena según los textos que los mismos elijan.

8- El jurado estará integrado por: Sonia Daniel (Córdoba- Argentina); Dewis Durán (Caracas- Venezuela); Héctor Presa (Buenos Aires- Argentina)

9- Las obras deberán enviarse antes del 30 de Noviembre 2015

10- Los resultados de la decisión del jurado se harán públicas durante el mes de Febrero 2016.

11- La participación en el concurso supone la aceptación de sus bases y la autorización tanto para la publicación como para la puesta en escena de la obra.
