Call for Applications – International Festival for Early Childhood

“Príncipe Enano” 2026

From the Caribbean, Cuba continues to think big about theatre for the very young. Our island returns to the stage with the Second Edition of the Early Childhood Theatre Festival “Príncipe enano”, and this time we do so with an international scope.

Theatre for early ages has been gaining strength around the world in recent years. ASSITEJ Cuba, the National Council of Performing Arts, the Provincial Council of Performing Arts of Villa Clara, and the Municipal Directorate of Culture of Plaza de la Revolución in Havana, all under the coordination of the Cuban Network of Performing Arts for Early Childhood, invite theatre groups from all over the world to join our celebration of puppets, songs, games, and colours.

On this occasion, we will be celebrating the lives and work of those who, many years before the general awareness of early childhood theatre in Cuba, were already carrying out this work under conditions where support and understanding were not fully present. In particular, we will honour the work of Margot Álvarez, a distinguished actress and director who dedicated her life to this kind of artistic endeavour.

Theatre has always been made for all audiences, but not always consciously and with emphasis. In this edition of the festival, we will hold workshops, panels, and theoretical sessions, because we understand that it is vital to reflect on and develop theatre for early childhood through the experiences of individuals and groups from all over the world. In this way, we will also be offering artistic presentations in Daycare Centres (Kindergartens).

This Second Edition will take place from May 31 to June 4 in Santa Clara and continue from June 5 to 7 in Havana. Starting now, we are receiving applications via email at assitejcubaoficial@gmail.com or artescprimerainfancia.cuba@gmail.com or through WhatsApp (+53 53033735 and +53 53294149). Through these contacts, you will be informed of the technical aspects needed to complete your application.

The submission deadline is February 28, 2026.

Please note that, as this is a small festival and only its second edition, we are unable to provide accommodation or meals for international guests, nor can we offer financial support for international transportation or fee payment.

Join us in celebrating our little ones. Become part of the great theatrical family we are building.
