Networks

ASSITEJ International has two types of Networks:

  • International Professional Networks, networks of organisations and individuals working across international borders on a particular shared theme or mission – full members of ASSITEJ International with full constitutional rights;
  • Regional Networks, clusters of ASSITEJ National Centres that collaborate within a particular global region, geographical, or linguistic context. These are not members of ASSITEJ International in themselves, but contain members.

International Professional Networks

Professional Networks bring together theatre companies, organisations, or persons across cultural, linguistic, national, and other divides, because of a shared interest or need related to the field of theatre and performing arts for children and young people.

The Professional Networks are official members of ASSITEJ International with full constitutional rights.

Currently, the networks include the International Inclusive Arts Network (IIAN), the International Theatre for Young Audiences Research Network (ITYARN), the Small Size Network, Write Local. Play Global. (WLPG), and the Young Dance Network.

The Next Generation Network is not a member of ASSITEJ International but exists
as a project of ASSITEJ International as well as an informal network of alumni.

ASSITEJ International actively encourages the formation of Professional Networks to support activities in the field of theatre and performing arts for children and young people. In Professional Networks, membership is based upon a particular area of specialisation in the field. Professional Networks could include Networks of, for example, actors, directors, scenographers, or art critics in theatre and performing arts for children and young people. Networks may also grow around a theme or idea, such as puppetry for young audiences, theatre and performing arts for teenagers, or theatre and performing arts in schools.

International Inclusive Arts Network (IIAN) | Inclusivity

International Inclusive Arts Network (IIAN) is a network of ASSITEJ and a community for people who are interested in creation, learning, or programming inclusive work for young audiences. We’re here to shine a light on this area of excellence, and we encourage people to share their thoughts, views and, most importantly, their work under the expansive umbrella of inclusive arts for young people. The Network is managed by a core group of artists and companies worldwide who all belong to ASSITEJ. We are here to promote international connections and discussion of inclusive work and practice

Please contact the International Inclusive Arts Network if: You want to discuss an issue or ask a question about inclusive theatre and performing arts for young audiences; You are producing a new inclusive work; You see an inspiring new inclusive theatre or performing arts production premiering or touring; You know about creative professionals and artists winning awards or recognition for work in this area; You want to share about an event happening anywhere in the world with a focus on inclusive arts; You want to share information from your country or region about events supporting and developing inclusive arts; You have time and energy to help the network grow.

Please join us on social media to share the latest news opportunities for artists within TYA. We will share news in the ASSITEJ magazine and profile events, organisations, and people.co So, if you value inclusive arts and are an affiliate or part of an ASSITEJ Centre, please join us.

International Theatre for Young Audiences Research Network (ITYARN) | Research

ITYARN, the International Theatre for Young Audiences Research Network, is the international research network of ASSITEJ International, mainly comprised of academic researchers.

ITYARN aims to further research in theatre and performance for children and young people through international exchanges of scholarly materials and discourse at conferences, symposia, and festivals. We believe that scholarly intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange and continued dialogue between researchers and practitioners will contribute to a better understanding of the impact of theory on practice and practice on theory from multiple perspectives. By disseminating peer-reviewed and edited international publications, ITYARN contributes to culture and knowledge by providing new insights and perspectives on the history, theory, practice, and perception of theatre and performing arts for children and young people.

ITYARN is an inclusive network with no membership fees.

Write Local. Play Global. (WLPG) | Playwriting

Write Local. Play Global. (WLPG) is an online meeting place for people interested in work written for young audiences.

Think of it as a virtual cafe where you can read about, make contact with, and catch up with people from around the world. You can find out about exciting new work, how writers approach their craft, and about organisations that support and develop the work of writers. It’s a community that wants to hear from you when:

  • You see a great new play;
  • You have a new work premiering or touring;
  • You want to discuss an issue or ask a question about writing for young audiences;
  • You or a colleague wins an award for writing;
  • There’s an event happening anywhere in the world supporting writers for young audiences;
  • You want to share information from your country or region about TYA playwrights, organisations, and events to support and help develop their work.

Young Dance Network | Dance

The Young Dance Network aspires to create a space for long-term networking and development which provides choreographers, dancers, and dramaturgs working across the field with a robust platform from which they can work, develop, and energise the field of contemporary dance for children and young people. The Network aims to enhance methods for sharing competencies regarding dance for young audiences. It hopes to create strong bonds between artists, unite interested parties, explore common points of interest, provoke new inspirations, and launch collaborative projects and exchanges.

We are interested in supporting the multiple languages of dance and physicality and their potential to cross the linguistic borders that can sometimes separate us. We are passionate about promoting dance as both a permanent form of cultural expression that embodies particular traditions, histories, and contexts and as a contemporary tool with which people can connect with one another. We feel that artistic work in dance for young audiences has not yet received appropriate attention, even where the contemporary dance scene is vibrant.
