The first edition of LA MÈCHE COURTE, an international performing arts festival dedicated to creation for young audiences, will take place in Montreal, Canada, from November 7 to 16, 2025. We are delighted to welcome ASSITEJ EC members and representatives of ASSITEJ Korea, organisers of the 22nd ASSITEJ World Congress and Performing Arts Festival in 2027, for this inaugural event.
During this joyful event, dance, theatre and other living forms will be pulsating in several theatres and venues across the city. Over 10 days, the new festival will be beating to the rhythm of a joyous intensity thanks to an abundant and multifaceted programme for 3 to 17-year-olds. The intention is clear: to celebrate theatre and dance for young audiences with a big party that brings people together, and to make the city vibrate with the colours of childhood and youth!
Our guests will be able to meet several members of ASSITEJ Canada, representatives of the Canadian TYA Festival Association, members of the Quebec TYA community, including stakeholders such as the Quebec Arts Council and the Montreal Arts Council and several guest artists and presenters from around the world.
ASSITEJ Canada will hold its Annual General Meeting in person during the festival, bringing together organizations and artists working in theatre and live performance for young people from across Canada. This will be the first national in-person gathering of our Canadian sector in several years.
With this first edition marked by a strong presence of professionals from Canada and abroad, LA MÈCHE COURTE has established itself as an essential hub for children’s and youth creativity in North America.
