Bangalore Little Theatre Foundation (BLT) is a member of ASSITEJ India. BLT took on a unique publishing project that has already gained world-wide admiration. BLT is known for its serious investment in writing for the stage, and has a long term programme thrust in new play development. A flagship annual Children’s Theatre production has new play scripts developed in-house.
As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2020-21, BLT decided to felicitate Vijay Padaki by publishing all his plays, plus all other new work developed over the past 60 years. He was also invited to be the Series Editor for the publications. There are a total of 10 volumes of plays. 6 volumes were ready by early 2024. The remaining 4 volumes are now released. At least three volumes are particularly relevant for TYA. Two volumes of plays are aimed at Children’s Theatre. A third Volume is titled Plays for Education.
The publications project is unique. Plays are generally published by playwrights. This is a first of its kind publications venture from a theatre organization. The publications have received much praise from International Theatre Institute. Vijay Padaki received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the World Congress in Havana in May 2024.
In addition to the volumes of plays Vijay Padaki has recently published two volumes of short stories. Most of the stories lend themselves to Storytelling Theatre, and have reached young audiences. Vijay was one of the ASSITEJ Lifetime Achievement Award winners in 2024.
