BABEL – NEXT GENERATION RESIDENCIES PROFESSIONALS INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR BURSARIES (second half of 2024)

 

‘Babel’ is a European Larger scale Cooperation project (‘Creative Europe’ Community Programme) involving  14 Partners from 11 European countries, coordinated by Teatercentrum I Danmark – DK.  The partners are: ASSITEJ International, La Baracca – IT, Agora Theater – BE, Bronks Jeugdtheater – BE, Théâtre La Montagne Magique – BE, Stichting De Stilte – NL, Baboró International Children’s Festival – IE, Lutkovno Gledalisce Ljubljana – SI, Menu Spaustuve – LT, Rialles Espectacles Infantils I Juvenils – ES, Scènes d’enfance – ASSITEJ France – FR, ASSITEJ Serbia – SB, ASSITEJ Sweden – SE.

It pursues the rights of children and youth to full cultural citizenship, and it aims to investigate the communications processes, intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding in TYA and, more extensively, the Performing Arts for Young Audiences.

‘Babel’ invites a large number of young artists and young professionals to participate in this experience, offering two distinct kinds of opportunities during the 16 Babel Festivals.

  • The first one is the offer of 32 residence bursaries for young artists and other young professionals (producers, managers, etc.) within the framework of the ‘Next Generation Programme’ of ASSITEJ International. The artists and professionals selected will have the chance to interact with the Festivals organisation at different levels and to observe and participate in the Festivals’ activities. This is the object of this call.
  • The second one is directed only to young performers to participate in the training of the Babel creation work groups during the Festivals. See the specifics of this call.

‘Babel’ project is based on 16 international TYA Festivals (called Babel Squares) in which most of the activities of the project are concentrated: International TYA performances; residencies and training for Next Generation; “Babel creation work groups” training for performers;Islands of Reflection” research activities; educational activities on childhood/adolescence and artistic languages; conferences, sem/web/inars with key-note speakers and round tables on the project topics.

  • To support the Residencies (object of this call), ‘Babel’ offers a grant, up to a maximum of 500 EUR, to give a partial reimbursement for travel and accommodation expenses incurred to attend the Festival.
  • The Festival Organizing Partner hosting the residency will help find convenient arrangements for accommodation and board.

The Residencies have taken and will take place during the following festivals:

April Festival (organised by TeaterCentrum – Denmark), Brik Festival (by De Stilte – Netherlands), Baborò Festival (by Baboró – Ireland), Lutke (by LGL – Slovenia), Kitoks (by Menų Spaustuvé -Lithuania), International Theaterfest (by Agora – Belgium), Festival Import/Export (by Montagne Magique and Bronks – Belgium), Festival El Petit (by Rialles – Spain), Festival Visioni di futuro, Visioni di teatro (by La Baracca – Italy).

Six residency grants will be awarded in the second half of 2024 for the scheduled Festivals:

  • Lutke Festival, from 23rd to 27th September, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. 2
  • Baboró Festival, from 12th to 16th October, in Galway, Ireland. 2
  • elPetit Festival, from 11th to 15th November, in Sabadell, Spain. 2
