Topic

Writing for the new generations. Where are we going?

For the past 70 years or so we have been living in a time of “Generations.” The first well-known generation are the “Baby-Boomers” born roughly between 1946 and 1964. They are followed by “Generation X,”  born from 1965 to 1976. The “Millennials” or “Gen Y” were born 1977 to 1995. Which brings us to those born after 1996, known under 3 names: “Gen Z,” “iGen,” or “Centennials.”

This last Generation includes the children and youth of today. For this generation 9/11 is part of history and technology and social media are part of life, depending on the culture and materials circumstances under which these children were born and raised. How do we write plays and create theatre for this generation? What is the relationship of the Baby Boomers, Gen X, and/or the Millennials to this generation? Do we need to pay attention to altered aesthetic sensibilities and if so, how do we do this? If internet and social media is an integral part of this generation, how does that affect playwrights and other theatre artists?

We are looking for papers that address these and other relevant question in theory, history, and practice. Papers will be grouped in panel presentations, seminars, and roundtables, all will be considered for publication.
