What does democracy look like through the eyes of young people? The Creative Link brings together artists from Rwanda, the Great Lakes region, and Europe to explore this question through the performing arts.
Running from September 2025 to August 2026, the project will connect 45 artists in intensive collaborations around democratic debate, intergenerational dialogue, bodies and migration, and participatory theatre. In partnership with Babel Compagnie (France), ILL Compagnie (Luxembourg), Theater o.N, and Fundus Theater (Germany), participants will experiment with new artistic methodologies that make democracy tangible by transforming abstract ideas into embodied creative practice.
From virtual exchanges to hands-on workshops in schools and youth centres, the initiative will engage 375 young people in exploring citizenship, inclusion, and collective future, making democracy a living, evolving process shaped by imagination and collaboration.
The project will culminate in May 2026 with an Arts & Democracy Forum bringing together artists, researchers, educators, and policymakers. ASSITEJ Rwanda will lead the project in partnership with Institut Français, Goethe-Institut, Embassy of Luxembourg, and EUNIC Rwanda.
