PYA England, the country specific branch of ASSITEJ UK, is thrilled to announce it has secured Investment Funds from Arts Council England, North to explore the viability of a national/international showcase or festival of work for young audiences in the North of England.

This investment builds on a recent sector needs analysis, consultation with the PYA England membership and existing/prior English festival producers and demonstrates a commitment from ASSITEJ UK to further its internationalism, advocacy and professional development of the sector.

PYA England is delighted to be working with Zannah Chisholm and Rosalind Conlon to deliver the research. We will be reaching out to our colleagues within national and international festivals to understand best practice across presentation models, contexts and curatorial process whilst interrogating appropriate financial models, funding sources and management structures. Underpinning the project is PYA England’s commitment to improving diversification, inclusivity, and accessibility of the sector both through leadership and representation on stage.

This is an exciting opportunity for PYA England to scope the possibility of a festival to take place in England that connects us to all our colleagues across the UK and internationally. There has never been a more important time for us to explore how we can develop our sector and reach young audiences with inspirational and engaging performance.  We greatly appreciate the support that has been given to us from Arts Council England, North.

Wendy Harris, Chair PYA England & Claire Summerfield, Chair PYA England Lobby Group.
