ASSITEJ International has been awarded a major grant from the European Union for our three-year project, Theatre & Performing Arts for Young Audiences: Building Collective Resilience (read more here). This grant recognises the importance of the performing arts in the lives of children & young people and the work ASSITEJ does in connecting and unifying practitioners all over the world.

In order to implement this project, ASSITEJ International is recruiting a Project Producer & Co-ordinator. Reporting to the Secretary General & Projects Director, the Project Producer & Co-ordinator is a key member of the ASSITEJ International team, working with fellow staff members and the Executive Committee to support, coordinate, communicate, and deliver the work packages that relate to this role, in collaboration and coordination with the whole team. This is a busy role, providing essential support to our growing Secretariat activities in addition to supporting the launch of innovative new projects and collaborations with artistic and cultural partners.

The role offers a stimulating mixture of planning, coordination and hands-on “doing”, and offers excellent opportunities for arts producing and non-profit programme management. It combines a mixture of people-facing engagement work, administrative planning and support, and creative communication approaches. The role requires someone sociable and compassionate, a practical problem-solver, able to engage with ASSITEJ International’s broad membership in a caring and inclusive manner. You must be organised, have excellent communication skills, and feel comfortable handling many projects, deadlines, and collaborators at a time.

The office is based in Copenhagen but flexible working (both time and geographic location) is possible and can be negotiated. The main working language will be English. The role is initially available on 60% FTE (full-time equivalent) basis on a fixed-term contract for 12 months with a probationary period of 3 months – and holds the possibility for extension of the contract period and work hours. Salary information is available upon request. The employment may be made through ASSITEJ Denmark. Start of employment is August/September 2022.

Responsibilities & Roles

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Supporting and co-ordinating the operations of ASSITEJ International and its relationships with its members;
  • Maintaining responsibility for producing project activities;
  • Communicating to members, stakeholders, and the public on the websites of ASSITEJ, via Newsletters, and through social media and other channels of communication;
  • Fulfilling administrative tasks in relation to the project and network activities;
  • Acting as a key liaison for artists, partners, and cultural agencies working within the field of international Theatre & Performing Arts for Children & Young People;
  • Working with international colleagues from across the world on a daily basis (with the possibility for regular international work trips).

Relation to Other Roles

  • Will assist the Secretary General (Louis Valente), and Knowledge & Network Director (Chris Bloiss-Brooke) to efficiently deliver the activities of the Theatre & Performing Arts for Young Audiences: Building Collective Resilience project.
  • Will lead on the delivery of specific sub-programmes and sub-projects in consultation with other staff members;
  • Will co-ordinate with the Finance Director in order to report on expenditure and budgeting;
  • Will report to the Executive Committee in order to receive feedback and approval on project implementation.

In common with the ASSITEJ team and Executive Committee, the Project Producer & Co-ordinator is expected to:

Project Management

  • Assist in the delivery of digital and in-person activities to a high standard, including coordination of logistics and production requirements and in liaison with presenting partners, service providers, festival staff, performers, and creatives;
  • Create and maintain efficient processes for project plans and production/logistical requirements and communicate key information internally and externally;
  • Assist in the management of project budgets including tracking projections, coding expenditure, budget reconciliation, and organising and managing project floats;
  • Travel locally and internationally when required to support the team, liaise with presenters, and take part in meetings of the Executive Committee;
  • Produce activity reports and statistics for the Executive Committee, the General Assembly of ASSITEJ, and the European Commission.


  • Produce the monthly newsletter of ASSITEJ;
  • Produce news posts and edit the website of ASSITEJ;
  • Share news on social media.

Working Relationships

  • Have a good understanding of ASSITEJ International, its membership, and its structure and aims;
  • Proactively develop and maintain relationships with artists, community organisations, industry peers, and presenting partners;


  • Collaborate with other project staff to ensure that marketing, administration, access, and administrative requirements for projects are delivered;
  • Participate collaboratively in staff meetings, strategic planning, and evaluation processes;
  • Undertake other duties from time to time as directed by fellow staff members or the Executive Committee of ASSITEJ International.

Risk Management

  • Maintain a safe working environment and procedures that comply with legislation and organisational policies;
  • With the project leader, develop work health and safety plans for the project in all its parts;
  • Communicate ASSITEJ policies and procedures to artists and partners and ensure that these are understood and upheld. These might include policies around ethics, data protection, harassment, health and safety, informed consent, safeguarding, and risk assessments.
Candidates’ Profile

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum three years of experience in a similar role within a Theatre & Performing Arts for Young Audiences or other Arts/Cultural Organisation;
  • An interest in performance for children and young people;
  • Ability and/or strong desire to work in an international context;
  • Working knowledge of elements of production and motivations of Theatre & Performing Arts for Young Audiences;
  • Sophisticated written and interpersonal communication skills in English;
  • Outstanding organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail, including the ability to manage a complex workload, create efficient systems and coordinate teams of different partners;
  • Ability to handle many projects, deadlines and collaborators at a time;
  • Strong digital skills for key business software such as Microsoft Office, G Suite, ZOOM, Social Media Management.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in the production or promotion of Theatre & Performing Arts for Young Audiences;
  • Knowledge of European Union Cultural Policy;
  • A track record of strong networking within the Arts and Cultural sector;
  • Good command or knowledge of languages other than English;
  • Knowledge of budgeting and reconciliation processes;
  • Technical experience (sound, multimedia, lighting) from within performance/event production;

Digital skills or experience of working with platforms such as WordPress, Zendesk, WooCommerce, Salesforce, Creative Cloud, Email Marketing.
