ASSITEJ Nigeria has hosted its Theatre Festival from the 28th -30th October, 2020.
The event featured a conference, workshop and many live performances. It took place online due to the situation restricted gathering worldwide. The theme of the festival was THEATRE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE: EMERGING TRENDS, in which Prof. Anna Odrowâz-Coates of the APS –Maria Grzegorzewska University, Warsaw-Poland delivered the keynote address in a paper titled, Janusz Korczak- a voice from Poland in Defense of Children’s Rights. The paper included analysis of Korczak’s Theatrical plays in the Ghetto with children.
Kara O’Neil of Leuphana Universität, Lüneburg, DE-Germany delivered a lead paper presentation titled Social Pedagogical Methodologies and their Application within Children’s Theatre. While Dr Joseph Azi, of Department of Industrial Design of Ahmadu Bello University-Zaria Nigeria conducted Animation Workshop. The event was aimed at exploring the strength and sustainability of Theatre for Children and young people in the pandemic as well as a foray into the post-pandemic periods.
The convener Mrs Pamela Udoka anticipated entries and participation from National centers and professional bodies while ensuring that the event would be educating, entertaining and creating a purpose for the target audiences.
