CBTIJ / ASSITEJ Brasil held elections for the 2019-2020 term of its Board last December 17th. Cleiton Echeveste has been re-elected as President. Bruno Bacelar continues as Secretary and Eduardo Almeida is the new Treasurer, substituting for Antonio Carlos Bernardes, a founding member of our Association. Bernardes continues as a member of the Board.

The new Board will face the challenge of maintaining the Association headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. Due to a major change in the federal government, which has extinguished the Ministry of Culture (now a Special Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development) and the impending extinction of the National Agency for the Arts (Funarte), CBTIJ/ASSITEJ may lose the space in the south side of Rio de Janeiro, where it has been active for nearly 22 years.

In spite of the hardship of an institutional and economic crisis, the new Board is committed to maintaining current projects, such as the CBTIJ TYA Theater Award and the website Todoteatrocarioca. Besides, the national expansion of its reach is under discussion, with new members and new perspectives for interaction with theater practitioners all over the country, and the international relations (especially with the Red Iberoamericana de Teatro para Niños y Jóvenes) continues a goal, as well as the fulfilment of the BRICS Alliance of Theater for Young Audiences, along with Russia, India, China and South Africa.

In September, CBTIJ/ASSITEJ Brasil is planning to host an International Seminar of Theater for Young Audiences in Rio de Janeiro, featuring some Brazilian performances in theater, dance, music and puppets. The dates and programme are yet to be publicized.
